Why 5-letter ladders feel harder
With five letters, there are more possible branches and more ways to accidentally trap yourself. Success comes from planning positions, not guessing quickly.
Practice puzzles (5 letters)
- SMILE → FROWN (theme challenge)
- PLANT → FRUIT
- STONE → MONEY
Advanced solving routine
- Map target letters you can lock early.
- Keep two parallel branches so one dead end does not reset progress.
- Prefer transitions that leave common endings available (-ER, -ED, -EN).
After-action review
For each completed puzzle, write your route, then compare to the shortest solver route. The gap between your move count and optimal count is the fastest way to improve over time.
