How to play Sudoku

Fill every row, column and 3×3 box with the numbers 1 through 9. Each number can appear only once in each area.

• Select a square, then choose a number.
• Turn on Notes to pencil in candidates.
• Use Check when you want mistakes highlighted.

Puzzles are generated with a single valid solution and preserved by date, so everyone receives the same challenge.

A useful starting strategy

Scan for rows, columns or boxes that already contain many numbers. Work out which digits are missing, then look for a square where only one can fit.

When you get stuck, pencil marks make hidden singles much easier to spot.
